WOLFGANG FISCHER

Obituary of WOLFGANG ERNST FISCHER

WOLFGANG FISCHER

September 1936 – March 2025

Wolfgang Ernst Fischer peacefully passed away on Tuesday March 18, 2025 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg where he resided for the past two years.

Born in Berlin Germany in 1936 to parents Franz and Irma. Together with his brother Peter and sister Marieanne they came to Canada in 1954.  Speaking only German, he went to Saturday movie matinees and learned to speak English. At this point he met and made what was to be, his life-long friend, Adam Mohr.

Wolfe married and had two daughters, Venise and Lisa.  Wolfe’s passion was cross country snowmobile racing where he raced for Polaris and Arctic Cat.  With the help and support of his team, he rarely came home empty handed, winning numerous runs interprovincially and internationally to the US.   Venise went on to follow in her fathers’ wild ways of racing and she didn’t disappoint him.

After the dissolution of his previous marriage, he met what would be his best friend and future wife, Monica. They were married in Hawaii and loved spending time together no matter what season.  Winter it was snowmobiling and in summer ATVing the backcountries and trails of Manitoba and Ontario.  During the in-between seasons they travelled.  Numerous trips to the Hawaiian Islands, California, Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, Columbia and Florida.  Visiting these countries brought added adventures such as ziplining, parasailing, exploring ancient cities and cultures, ethnic foods and drinks. Things that were never experienced before.  Life was good until dementia set in. Then time slowed down and life’s memories started to become distant.

Wolfe looked back at his time and was proud of his many accomplishments such as owning his own company (Superior Wrought Iron), racing snowmobiles with his family, watching his girls Venise (Reihl) and Lisa (Brandstrom) grow up, being around for the birth of his only grandson Aaron Reihl and for the enduring friendships that were made along the way.

When asked if he could live his life over again what would he do differently, his answer was “Nothing!  I leave this world with no ill feeling towards anyone.  My life was lived my way.  I made my own choices in life and marriages and don’t regret any of them.  I did what made me happy, with the people I loved and had a lot of fun and adventures along the way.  I worked hard and played hard and would have loved to spend more time here if life hadn’t deemed me as “Ancient”.

Monica would like to thank the entire staff at Middlechurch Home for the excellent care and compassion they showed to Wolfe and her for the past two years. They all gave the best care possible and made it feel like an extension of home.

As per Wolfgang’s wishes, no funeral will be held and his cremains will be interned at a later date in Brookside cemetery, alongside his parents and brother.
