It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our father Romano Sverko on Tuesday March 18, 2025 after a battle with cancer.

Romano was born in the small town of Podgace, Croatia on January 7, 1943.  It was in this small town that he met his wonderful wife of 55 years, Marija.  They married then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1970.  Here in Winnipeg, he worked many jobs over the first four years in the country from butcher to construction worker before really setting on as a steelworker, where he stayed for over 25 years until his retirement. 

Dad was always a stoic man never prone to show a lot of emotions but everyone knew how much he loved and cherished them.  He would help the best he could whenever his family needed him and felt so bad later on when his age just wouldn’t allow.

Romano was pre-deceased by his parents Josip and Rosa and wife Marija.  He is survived by his sister Marija and daughters Anita and Gabriela (Jason).

In accordance to dad’s wishes, no formal service will be held.  Dad will be accompanied with his family to Croatia for burial alongside his beloved wife.

Romano’s big booming voice will be sorely missed but now he can be reunited with our mother.
