Obituary of CORNELIUS "CON" OLIVER LYNCH
CORNELIUS OLIVER LYNCH “Con”
July 29, 1940 – March 26, 2025
Con Lynch died peacefully on Wednesday March 26, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital surrounded by his family.
Mourning his loss are sons Conor (MaryAnne); grand-daughters Ella and Olivia, Amhlaoibh (Kathy) grandson Christian; daughter Shauna (Corey); along with many other dear nieces, nephews and friends.
Dad was born in Ballyvourney, Co. Cork Ireland in 1940 to Freddie and Mary (nee Lucy) Lynch. After two years at Teacher Training College, dad began his teaching career in 1960. He met Mary Logue in Dublin and they married in 1964. With their two sons, Con and Mary came to Canada in 1968. After a year in Brandon they moved to Winnipeg and dad began teaching at John Pritchard School. Dad moved to John Henderson Junior Hight School in 1980 and a year later his darling little girl Shauna arrived on the scene. It was the 80’s. It was a wild time!
All three of us had the great fortune to have dad as our teacher. For us boys, he taught us in grade 6 at John Pritchard. Shauna had him for grades 7, 8, and 9 at John Henderson. He was the best teacher any of us had in the classroom and at home. Countless people have told us over the years he was their favourite teacher. Dad loved children and he loved teaching them to love learning. Even the scallywags.
After his retirement in 1997 he spent the next 15 years with the love of his life, Mary, until she sadly died in 2012.
Dad filled his days meeting and debating with almost everyone he encountered at Sal’s or A & W and spending time with his beloved dog and best friend Max. He loved to follow the news, driving, travelling, engaging in crossword competitions and being with family. His grandchildren were his greatest source of pride and joy.
His faith was the solid foundation that gave him strength and direction throughout his entire life.
We would like to thank Con’s family physician Dr. Marcello Venditti and all the staff at St. Boniface Hospital ER, 6A South and 6E for their incredible care and compassion.
Prayers and viewing will be held Friday April 4, 2025 at 8:00 p.m. at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue.
