Obituary of TABEA KLEIN
TABEA KLEIN
May 18, 1928 – September 10, 2025
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, Tabea Klein (nee Guenther).
Tabea passed away peacefully at 4:10 am., September 10, 2025 at River East Personal Care Home in Winnipeg at the age of 97.
Predeceased by her devoted husband Otto Klein of 68 years; parents August and Olga Guenther and siblings Adina, Benjamin and Robert. Tabea leaves to mourn in loving memories, her children Dieter (Marlene), Marita (Hans) and Karin (Werner) of Winnipeg; her grandchildren Manuela (Don), Dianna, Andrea, Kaitlin (Kevin) and Adrienne (Dave); her great grandchildren Rowan, Kai, Matteo, Henrik, Charlie and Saxon; her nieces Carmen and Karin; great niece Dana; nephews Joe and Bobby and cousins and nieces in Canada, Germany and the USA.
Tabea was born on May 18, 1928 in Matschulek, Volynia, Poland, was raised on the family farm along with her siblings and was also trained as an early childhood educator.
Sadly, during World War 2 the family was expelled from their homeland and finally settled in the small rural town of Wettmershagen, West Germany. Tabea married Otto Klein in 1948 and together they began to raise a family.
In 1963, the family emigrated to Winnipeg to join Tabea's parents, brothers and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. In Winnipeg they worked hard and created a beautiful and welcoming home. Tabea was an avid gardener and also a skilled cook. She was the happiest when surrounded by family and friends or when she could try out a new recipe for special occasions. But above all, she had compassion with the unfortunate and always ready to provide shelter and a helping hand to those in need.
Tabea was a Lifelong Member of the German Canadian Society of Winnipeg and the first one to volunteer her time for various cultural events. Uncountable volunteer hours were happily spent at Folklorama, Oktoberfest or the German Christmas Market - (Christkindel Markt) and other cultural events. Summer months were spent at their trailer in Camp Neustadt-Lake Winnipeg and during the winter months, Tabea and Otto would join their large group of friends for the Friday dances at the German Canadian Society of Winnipeg, rarely missing out on a dance. We are convinced that mom and dad are together again and dancing on the clouds.
Der Kampf des Lebens ist zu Ende,
vorbei ist aller Erdenschmerz,
es ruhen die fleissigen Hände,
still steht ein edles Herz
The family extends a special thank you and heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at River East Personal Care Home, Dr. Saunders and Lily Regehr for the compassionate support and comfort care provided during our mother's final days.
