Obituary of MELVIN FREDERICK LOWE

MELVIN FREDRICK LOWE

Melvin Fredrick Lowe passed away peacefully with family by his side on September 21, 2025, at St. Boniface General Hospital, at the age of 78, just shy of his 79th birthday.

Melvin is lovingly remembered by his wife, Carol; his children Heather (Francis), Kim (Danys), and Chris (Nikki); his grandchildren Léa, Kendyl, Arielle, Rory, Max, and Mycah; and his great-grandchildren Zara and Melody. He will also be missed by his sister Maryann, his nephew Jeff (Carly), and his cherished fur babies Walter and Mélodie.

Mel lived a full and beautiful life, creating countless memories with his family and friends. He especially treasured time spent at the cabin he built in Lakeshore Heights, as well as summer visits to Kenora and days on Lake of the Woods at camp.

A true people-person, Mel enjoyed a good cup of coffee, conversation, and laughter—often making new friends at his favorite neighborhood coffee shop. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he proudly supported his children and grandchildren at countless sporting events, sharing in their love of sports and encouraging them in all of their endeavors.

Mel was also an enthusiastic fan of the Winnipeg Jets and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, never missing a chance to exchange playful banter with his sister when they played Calgary teams.

He will be remembered as kind, funny, generous, positive, strong, and full of energy and light. Despite health challenges, Mel never stopped traveling, adventuring, and being the life of the party. A jack of all trades, he passed along his skills and wisdom to his son and sons-in-law. With his can-do spirit, there was little he couldn’t figure out—always balancing work, family, and hobbies with “Mel Lowe” ease.

As we remember Mel today, we cannot do so without honoring his beloved wife, Carol.  For 53 years, they shared a marriage that was built on devotion, patience, and a deep joy in one another’s company.  In his wife, Mel found not only a partner but a best friend. Mel often thought of himself as a lucky man to have such a beautiful wife.  Even in our sorrow, we take comfort in the love they shared and believe they will be reunited again one day.

Mel’s impact on his loved ones is immeasurable. We are deeply grateful for the years of joy, laughter, and love we shared. He will be forever loved, missed, and cherished.
