Alice Fernandes Soares, born May 15, 1945, in Faial da Terra, São Miguel, Azores, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025.

Alice immigrated to Canada in 1970, where she settled in Winnipeg and built a life rooted in family, faith, and resilience. She was a kind, caring, and loving mother who found her greatest joy in being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, especially teaching the little ones their prayers.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Antonio Soares, and their son, Rui Soares, in 1975. She later remarried Manuel Brilhante, who predeceased her in 2007.

Alice was deeply faith-driven and a devoted member of the Carmelite Order, to which she dedicated herself with passion and commitment throughout her life.

She is survived by her children Patricia, Miguel, Manuel, Paul, Joe, and Diana, as well as stepchildren Lucy, David, and Tony. She is also survived by her sisters Odilia Soares and Maria of São Miguel, along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were deeply loved.

A public service will be held to celebrate Alice’s life. Details will be shared with family and friends.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Alice Fernandes Soares, natural de Faial da Terra, concelho de Povoação, ilha de São Miguel, Açores, nasceu a 15 de maio de 1945 e faleceu a 22 de dezembro de 2025.

Em 1970, emigrou para o Canadá, fixando residência em Winnipeg, onde construiu a sua vida dedicada à família e à fé. Foi uma mãe carinhosa, atenciosa e dedicada, encontrando a sua maior alegria em estar rodeada pelos seus filhos e netos, especialmente ao ensinar as crianças a rezar.

Foi precedida na morte pelo seu primeiro marido, António Soares, e pelo seu filho Rui Soares, em 1975. Mais tarde, casou com Manuel Brilhante, falecido em 2007.

Mulher de fé profunda, Alice foi membro devota da Ordem Carmelita, à qual se entregou com grande devoção ao longo da sua vida.

Deixa os seus filhos Patrícia, Miguel, Manuel, Paul, Joe e Diana, bem como os seus enteados Lucy, David e Tony. Deixa ainda as suas irmãs Odília Soares e Maria, residente em São Miguel, assim como muitos netos e bisnetos, todos profundamente amados.

O funeral será público. Os detalhes do serviço serão comunicados à família e amigos.

Será sempre recordada com amor e saudade por todos os que a conheceram.
