Obituary of THOMAS HOUNSOME
Thomas Arthur Hounsome passed away suddenly on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at St. Boniface Hospital at age 62. He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Joanne Motrich; nephew, Dylan Bucci; and daughter, Kimmie. Thomas is survived by his wife, Chris; daughter, Pat; sons, Tyler (Meaghan) and Wayne (Emma); grandchildren, Pheonix, Jessica, Beth, Salem; and his many Great Grandchildren. He also leaves his many chosen brothers and extended family.
Thomas was born January 14, 1963 in Etobicoke, Ont. He spent many of his early years traveling and immersing himself in the cultures of North, South and Central America. He would eventually call Winnipeg his home. Thomas spent much of his time involved in the community. While volunteering at Winnipeg Harvest he met and fell in love with Chris, they were married July 21, 1994. On his wedding day, Thomas told the kids, "I'm not just marrying your Mom, I'm marrying all of you." Thus began the family anniversaries they celebrated. Chris and Thomas spent 31 years supporting each other through life’s challenge. Holding true to their vows, they faced sickness and health, hard times and good. Thomas was always a shoulder to cry on, an ear to listen and a rock to keep you grounded.
Thomas shared his love of science, reading and travel with everyone, and was always open to a new point of view. His mastery of cooking is caried on by his son, Tyler, who amazed him by becoming an executive chef. His deep love of learning is carried on by his son, Wayne, who has become a teacher. His abundance of compassion and sense of community is carried on by his daughter, Pat, whose door is always open to family and friends. Thomas was a minister, professional Dad and Grandpa. He was invaluable in raising his granddaughters, with long winter walks to school or cuddles when they were hurt. He was the center of their worlds and will be greatly missed.
The family especially thanks the Winnipeg Paramedic Service, the staff at St. Boniface Hospital and the staff at Cropo for their support.
A celebration of life will take place on Sunday, February 22, 2026 from 12:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. at Junction 59,1615 Regent Ave W # 200, Winnipeg, MB R2C 5C6. It will be a come and go style, with light nibbles provided as well as coffee, tea and pop.
