Obituary of NICK MARCHAK
Nick Marchak passed peacefully on the 3rd of January, 2026 at Actionmarguerite, St. Joseph’s Long Term Care home.
He was predeceased by his wife Olga, parents, Anthony and Carey; sister, Stella; brother, John; son, Raymond and daughter- in-law Colleen.
He is survived by his grandson, Tyler, niece, Monica, nephew, Larry, and their families. He will be dearly missed by his close friends (team Nick) Cindy and Robert, Larry and Nancy, Brett and Alyse and Gail.
Nick was the former executive chef at the Hotel Fort Garry and then the Winnipeg Convention Centre. He started work at the Hotel Fort Garry in 1962 and over the years moved to the top position in the kitchen and not only made a name for himself as Head Chef but as a Master of ice and fat carvings. He was a gold medal winner with the Canadian Western Regional Team at the 1976 World Culinary Olympics, an accomplishment for which he was very proud. Nick was a member of the Canadian Federation of Chef de Cuisine and an honorary member of the Association of Chef de Cuisine of Manitoba.
Nick was an ardent hunter, fisherman and trap shooter. He had many trophies, and stories of his successes which also included loving memories of his dogs. His life was defined by the understanding and respect he shared with his canine companions. He held a special place in his heart for each and every one of them. Everyone who knew Nick also knew all of his dogs by name.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Joseph’s for the compassion he was shown and the care he received during his stay.
Nick, may you forever walk the great fields in the sky with your beloved wife “Ollie”, and your faithful Springer Spaniels by your side.
A service will be held at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street on Saturday, January 10, 2025 at 10:00 am.
No flowers by request, however, a donation can be made in Nick’s memory to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation.
