VLADIMIR (BOB, VOVA) ADAMOV
(1953 - 2019)
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Vladimir Adamov on Feb. 20, 2019 at age 65. He found peace being surrounded by family at the Grace Hospice.
Vladimir leaves to mourn his wife Marianna Carol Hryniuk-Adamov, his daughters Stephanie and Katya (James) and Grandsons Ilya and Lev, brother Nick (Sherey), niece Christine (Derek) and their children Curtis and Mattias, nephew Michael Adamov and Uncle Gary Seaman.
Vladimir was predeceased by his devoted parents Valentina Adamov (2018) and Dr. Eugene Adamov (2012), his beloved brother Alexander (1975), Adamov and Belkin grandparents, Aunt Marsha, and Uncles Peter and Paul, and in-laws, Stephania and Wasyl Hryniuk.
Bob will also be fondly remembered by his brothers-in-law William (Lynn) Hryniuk and Terry (Martha) Hryniuk and their families as well as Belkin, Hryniuk, Burnside, Strutinsky, Smith, Skrypnyk, Shipman, and Suderman relatives, his Godchildren, church congregation, and dear friends.
Vladimir was born July 14, 1953 in St. Boniface Hospital. He attended Gladstone and Hastings Schools, then Dakota Collegiate. In his youth, Vova loved attending ORPR Russian Orthodox Camp in Illinois where he served in leadership roles as counsellor, and later as assistant and director. His cherished school and camp experiences inspired long-lasting friendships.
Vlad attended the University of Manitoba and completed his B.Sc. with a specialization in Zoology. He was chosen Valedictorian for the class of 1975. As a student, he worked as a natural resource researcher for the Parkland Regional Development Corporation studying the water chemistry and fish ecosystems in Manitoba. He identified important ecological connections and advocated for more sustainable practices for lakes and rivers.
Vladimir valued his collaboration in several business ventures including The Great Canadian Travel Company, Canadian Control Power Systems, Martin Yachts, and an educational consulting company, Strategies for Success.
Bob also had an artistic and adventurous side. He studied Renaissance painting in the Netherlands and Belgium, enjoyed painting, woodcarving, playing classical guitar, song writing and travelling. He was a certified scuba diver and loved Caribbean diving excursions with his daughters.
Dad was most in his element at the family cabin at Lake of the Woods where he enjoyed fishing at sunset, boating, tinkering, and hosting people. He was known for navigating rough waters, filleting fish with precision, visiting the library, chasing bears away and sharing his deep knowledge of the biodiversity of the boreal forest.
Vladimir was a tonsured reader in the Russian Orthodox Church, choir director, and tenor who valued the preservation of liturgical music. His Orthodox faith was a source of great strength.
Despite complex health challenges, Bob maintained an infectious sense of humour and quick wit. His gregarious personality will be missed.
Bob took his cancer diagnosis with humility and a strong spiritual outlook. Thank you to the compassionate medical, spiritual, palliative care teams who enhanced the quality of Vladimir’s life. We deeply appreciate all the people who prayed, visited and supported Vladimir and family throughout his illnesses.
Prayers (Parastas) will be sung on Sunday, February 24 at 5:00 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Fr. Raphael Vereshack officiating. Funeral service will be on Monday, February 25 at 10:00 am at Holy Resurrection Russian Orthodox Church, 732 Alfred Avenue. Internment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
