Obituary of ANNA ALBINA SAPACZ
ANNA ALBINA SAPACZ
Peacefully on April 23, 2013 Anna Albina Sapacz (nee Richtscheid) passed away at Holy Family PCH at the age of 90 years.
Our beloved mother, grandmother (Oma), great grandmother and great great grandmother leaves to mourn her children : Erika (Klaus), (Flora), Anita (Bob), Ed (Marta), Rick (Debbie) and grandchildren Christine (Al), Andy (Brenda), Joseph (Coreen), Jeff (Donna), James (Kim), Mark (Lori), Roseanne (Dwayne), Nicole (Colby), Bryan (Lisa), Patrick (Tracy), Brendon, Mackenzie and Jeanna. She will be sadly missed by her 21 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, her many nieces and nephews and the Lentowitsch, Richtscheid, and Meyer families in Germany. She was predeceased by her parents Anna Leschynski and Walter Richtscheid, husband Franz Lentowitsch and second husband Gabriel Sapacz, siblings Wanda (Mike), Edmund (Gertrude), and her beloved son John.
Mom was born in Galicia, Poland. At 18 she married Franz and at 23 was a widow with 3 small children. She endured many hardships during WWII and was repatriated to East Germany at its conclusion. In 1953 with the help of relatives she and her 3 children escaped to West Berlin and in August 1953 joined her family in Winnipeg.
In 1954 she met and married Gabriel Sapacz. The family grew with the addition of Ed and Rick. Dad was employed as a carpenter while mom worked at Naleway’s Catering until her retirement. Mom and Dad both enjoyed cottage life at Lester Beach. Their cottage was a welcoming place to both family and friends where Mom and Dad loved to go mushroom and blueberry picking. Mom became known as the mushroom lady of Belair. Her blueberry and mushroom perogies were sought after treats at many family gatherings. She cherished her cottage friendships with Willy and Martha Radke and others who visited.
Mom’s life revolved around her large extended family in which she was the beloved matriarch. Fond memories of large fun-filled family gatherings at both home and cottage will always be treasured. Sincere thanks to the caring staff of Holy Family.
