MARY STRATYCHUK

Obituary of MARY STRATYCHUK

MARY (MAYME) ALEXANDRA STRATYCHUK (nee BLACK) Mayme left us peacefully on June 11, 2013 to be reunited with her beloved Orest. She was predeceased by her father Peter in 1944, mother Anna in 1988, husband Orest in 1992, and brother Bill in 1979. She is survived by her brother Stan Black (Jean), nephew Jim Black (Pam), niece Susan Garland (Garrick), and brother-in-law Anatole Stratychuk (Joyce), and will be missed dearly by her friend Agnes. Mayme was born on September 6, 1920 in Winnipeg and raised in Komarno and later Winnipeg Beach. She was born at a simpler time, and it is amazing to think of all the changes in the world that she witnessed. She attended Business College in Winnipeg and met her future husband at their mutually favourite coffee shop. Mayme married Orest on October 16, 1953 and was extremely proud of the career he chose. They spent their married life in Edmonton where he practiced law. Mayme worked as well, and spent her working years at CIBC and CN Rail. Her last job was at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, where she greeted everyone as the receptionist there. Mayme worked til the wonderful age of 72. Orest passed away on January 3, 1992 and shortly after Mayme moved back to Winnipeg Beach. Mayme was very much a lady. She took great pride in her appearance and always made sure she looked her very best. Mayme loved sports of all kinds, especially curling, and enjoyed watching it. She also loved Bingo and the chance of a win. Mayme enjoyed creating beautiful pysanka (Easter eggs) which she gave away to anyone who would appreciate them. Mayme stayed active and she could always be seen walking to or from the store with her bags of groceries. She enjoyed her road trips with Agnes, whether they were for the weekend or just for the day. It was during these drives that Mayme would often reminisce about her younger years. She was always appreciative of the time that anyone chose to spend with her. When you talked to Mayme, you soon realized how sharp she was. She could remember things that she said or did decades before. In her latter years, she would await visits from her nephew Jim and Pam, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had a soft spot for Jim because they both had red hair. She was a kind, sweet lady. We will miss her gentle soul and sweet smile. Thank you to Dr. R.C. Patel for his continued care, as well as all the staff at Gimli and Selkirk Betel. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Vichnaya Pam’yat
