Obituary of ELIZABETH BOITSON
ELIZABETH BOITSON
(nee Chikousky)
March 15, 1939 – June 28, 2013
Peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2013, our Mother and Baba, Elizabeth, was reunited in heaven with her husband Joseph, after only 16 months apart. Remembering her lovingly is her daughter Donna (Roger), grandchildren Warren and Melissa (Michael), son Don (Andrea), grandchildren Ashley, Meghan and Matthew, son Charles (Lyn) and granddaughter Carly.
Elizabeth is also survived by her sisters Nellie and Leda (Len) and brother John (Margaret), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents Peter and Rose Chikousky, brother-in-law Tom and husband Joseph.
Elizabeth was born in Fisher Branch, MB and spent her childhood years on the family farm in Kilkenny. She fell in love at a young age with a handsome man from Komarno. Elizabeth and Joseph married and spent 54 remarkable years together raising their family and enjoying life. After a brief career as a teacher, Mom spent many years working at Eaton’s and The Bay downtown.
Elizabeth loved to cook and bake for family and friends and her home was always open for a cup of coffee and a sampling of her favorite recipe of the month. Mom also welcomed many relatives to stay at her home while they attended school; or to those starting their careers in the city.
Sunday dinners were a regular occurrence at Mom’s and the cozy kitchen was always overflowing with good food and great conversation. Many will remember the great perogy feasts – whether smothered in butter with traditional fillings or her special saskatoon-filled delicacies.
For many years, knitting and crocheting were her favourite past times and countless doilies, afghans and baby blankets have become sentimental gifts for many family members and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and berry picking, which resulted in the canning of fruits, vegetables, jams and jellies.
Family was of the utmost importance to Mom. She was extremely proud of her children and especially grandchildren – all of whom will miss her dearly.
A special thank you to Donna and Roger for caring for Mom in their home for the past six weeks, ensuring she was comfortable in her final days with us.
