Obituary of ANNE ASKINIS
ANNE ASKINIS
(nee Bezys)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Momsha and Oma at the Riverview Health Center at the age of 84.
Momsha was predeceased by her beloved husband Joseph (2011) of 60 years and brother John (2008).
Left to cherish her memory is her family, children Margaret (Bob), Rita (Marsha), Angela (Eric), Richard (Irene), grandchildren Lindsay (Dave), Matt, Kyle, Rihana, Kristin and great-granddaughters Joslyn and Taryn along with niece Ruth, nephew Norman, sister-in-law Monica, and faithful dog Callie.
Momsha was born in Lithuania in 1929, but left at a young age to escape Russian occupation before the war. The family fled to Germany and then resettled in Winnipeg because of its large Lithuanian community. Momsha was an accomplished seamstress and baker, having completed a commercial baking course at Red River College in the 1970’s. She worked at Canadian National Railway until her retirement.
Momsha loved to entertain friends and family, cooking and baking delicious treats for her guests, and she also loved to sew beautiful clothing for her children and grandchildren - and their Barbie dolls. She had a passion for the outdoors; picking wild berries and mushrooms out at the cottage in the Whiteshell, walking several miles every day with the dogs, cross-country skiing, traveling, waterskiing out at the lake, and tending to her garden. You could never leave the house without a big bag of fresh vegetables in arm.
Momsha’s legacy is written in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family passionately and was known for always putting everyone else’s needs before her own. She will be remembered for her unwavering spirituality and strong faith in our heavenly father, her kindness towards others, her sweet and gentle persona, and her devotion to her family. She will be forever loved and greatly missed.
The family wishes to thank Momsha’s wonderful friends & neighbors for all the love and support you’ve given to her over the years, with a special thank you to Gary and Mary-Lou. We’d like to gratefully thank Angie, her homecare worker, who for years looked after our Dad and then Momsha until she was hospitalized. We’d also like to thank the caring staff of the Riverview Health Centre (3 West), and nurse Alice, for the loving care and compassion they provided to mom and to the family during her time there.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be officiated by Pastor S. Moroz at the Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at 12:00 noon.. Burial at Brookside Cemetery will take place following the reception.
