Obituary of ISABEL COSTA SANTOS
ISABEL COSTA SANTOS
Peacefully on October 2, 2013 with her family by her side, Isabel passed away after a courageous battle with breast cancer.
She leaves to mourn her husband Mario; children, Nicole (Nelson) and Justin (Bimal); five siblings, Fernando (Adriana) Costa, Margarida (Emanuel) Cabral, Manuela (Joaquim) Clemente, Helena (Carlos) Moniz and Natalia (Antonio) Botelho; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Isabel was predeceased by her parents Manuel and Maria; and her niece Kristen Moniz.
Isabel was born on January 16, 1957 in São Miguel, AÇores, Portugal. She came to Canada with her family and attended school in Winnipeg. She worked at the H.S.C. for over 30 years until her passing. Isabel met and married Mario in Winnipeg and as part of their union they had two children together. Her family was most important to her. She supported her husband during his twenty years in public office and was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family; watching television daytime soap operas, evening reality shows and sitcoms. Isabel also enjoyed her summers at the Portugese Park in St. Laurent as well as many events with the Portugese Association and other organizations in Winnipeg throughout the year. She was a devout Roman Catholic and regularly attended Immaculate Conception Church.
Special thanks to Aunt Isabel (John) Cunha for their special care during Isabel’s battle with cancer. Thanks also to Dr. Pat Harris and her team at CancerCare at Grace Hospital, the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital and the Grace Hospice team where Isabel spent her final days.
Prayers will be said on Friday, October 4 at 8:00 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin Street North. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 5 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow in Assumption Cemetery.
