Obituary of ANASTASIA BASTOUNIS

ANASTASIA (TASOULA) BASTOUNIS It is with a heavy heart and great sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother ANASTASIA BASTOUNIS, born on June 11, 1938 in Xironomi, Attiki, Greece. She passed away peacefully and with dignity on December 23, 2011 surrounded by her dearest friends, relatives and family by her side in a room full of prayer and love. She will be remembered for her spirituality, her devotion to God, her generosity and love for her family. She was a brave, selfless, self-sacrificing woman, a caring and nurturing mother and grandmother. Tasoula was fearless, strong, kind and compassionate and her loss will be felt by all who knew her. Tasoula was a hard worker who would always say "there is no shame in work." Some of her roles included domestic help, seamstress, chambermaid and housekeeping but her fondest memories were those of when she worked at Olympic Airways in Athens, Greece. Her proudest and most cherished role was the one of wife, mother and grand-mother. Tasoula is survived by her loving husband of 34 years, NIKOLAOS BASTOUNIS, her son JOHN BASTOUNIS, her daughter DINA BASTOUNIS-CHRISTODOULOPOULOS, her son-in-law VASSILIOS CHRISTODOULOPOULOS, her grandchildren NICHOLAS BASTOUNIS, DIMITRI BASTOUNIS, ADAMANTIA CHRISTODOULOPOULOS as well as her siblings in Greece (Dimitrios, Basilia, Kostas, Christos and Fotis), nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends both here and in Greece. Her courage and bravery never faulted during her long battle with Alzheimer’s disease and Lewy Body Dementia, and is now at peace in God’s arms. We thank everyone for their support during our pain and grief. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the entire staff at Lions Personal Care Centre for their kindness and compassion. Their homelike environment and loving, experienced staff ensured that she had the quality care and comfort she deserved and that she maintained her dignity all the way until the end. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Prayer services will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave, at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday December 29, 2011. The funeral will follow at the same location, on Friday, December 30, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery, 3001 Notre Dame Ave. Flowers may be sent to Cropo Funeral Chapel or donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Manitoba, 10 – 120 Donald St.
