BORDEN WALTER PROKOPOWICH
It is with deepest sorrow to announce the passing of Borden Prokopowich at the age of 77 of Birds Hill, Manitoba on October 17, 2013.
Borden is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Stella; three children Robert, Colleen and Ryan; brother Denzil Prokopowich; sisters Cassie Zelinski, Merci Sernick, Margaret Johnson and Stella Prysiazniuk. He will be sadly missed by a large extended family of nieces and nephews and especially by his own family.
He was predeceased by his parents Anna and Walter Prokopowich; brothers John, Mike, Tony, Metro and Steven Prokopowich; sisters Minnie Lozinski, Sophie Warelis, Olga Lesniak.
Borden was born February 24, 1936, growing up on the family farm in Ukrainia, Manitoba. At a young age he left home to work for Canadian National Railway on the extra gang in northern Manitoba. He moved to Thunder Bay, ON then to mining in Snow Lake, Manitoba and Kitimat, BC, then on to Niagara Falls, ON. Returning to Winnipeg he worked for Canada Packers and Old Dutch as a maintenance mechanic.
Borden (also known as Gorden) had many hobbies from repairing anything to building all types of projects. He really enjoyed northern fishing trips, listening to old time country and western music, and polka music. He was also a long time member of the St. Anne’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Concordia Hospital for their care of Borden.
Prayers will be said on Tuesday, October 22 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Church with Very Rev. Fr. Mark Gnutel officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main St.
Pallbearers will be sons Robert, Ryan, nephews Shawn Warelis, Dennis Warelis, Randy Kohuch, James Seniuk.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, Concordia Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
