Obituary of VALENTIN KAMPEN
VALENTIN KAMPEN
On October 28, 2013 Valentin, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away at age 89 years at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Besides his wife Ludmila he is survived by: daughter Elizabeth (Les Fletcher) of Alix, AB, son Walter Kampen (Elvira) of Winnipeg and 2 grandchildren Lee and Lisa.
Valentin Kampen, son of Maria and Jacob Kampen, was born October 22, 1924 in Zaporozhiya, Ukraine. An only child, Valentin grew up excelling in school. He loved sports, music, and learning in general.
During WWII, he left the Ukraine with his mother and grandmother. Through all of the hardships of wartime Valentin became a trusted worker for the company Stihl in Baden-Württemburg, Germany. He met his future wife in Germany as well.
After the war Valentin found himself in Canada. He first settled in Steinbach. Later he moved to Winnipeg where in 1951 he married his beloved wife Ludmila.
Valentin worked most of his career for CNR as an electronics technician. He made friends easily and knew how to do his job well. He retired in 1987.
Valentin’s dream was for him and his family to spend their summers at the cabin which he built near Grand Beach. A labour of love, it blossomed into a focal point for family and friends many summer days. In the winter months he enjoyed travelling to warmer climates with his wife.
The last few years were not very active ones for Valentin. He was content with what life had offered him – a loving family, numerous friends, a meaningful career, and many personal accomplishments. He was truly blessed.
