Obituary of SOTER CHUNICK
SOTER CHUNICK
July 21, 1925 - November 7, 2013
Peacefully after a brief illness, Dad passed away at the Maples Personal Care Home.
Born and raised in Pine River, MB., he was the youngest of 8 children. He is predeceased by his parents Jacob and Anna Chunick,
all of his siblings and dear friends of Pine River.
Left to mourn are his five children: Sylvia (Steve) Arseny; Barb (Larry) Wozny; Sandra (Don) Ostlund; Myron (Shannon) Chunick;
Brenda Chunick. Also, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Dad received his schooling from Pine River School. For many years he loved working in the bush cutting pulp throughout the Parkland
and Northern Manitoba in the winter months. Taking over the farm, he worked hard with his family growing crops; raising cattle, pigs,
chickens; using the mower, thrashing machine and horses. Dad farmed in Pine River until 1970, moved to Winnipeg and did farming
for George Sellers for another two years. After that he worked for Frank Loch Construction doing water and sewer until the mid 80's.
Dad had many passions when he retired. He enjoyed about 12 summers at Miami Beach Resort where he did his best gardening and
loving the companionship of his neighbour campers. He was usually the first person to arrive for the season and the last to leave in
October. When he was no longer able to make the drive to the resort, he did his gardening at his residence in the North End of Winnipeg
where he remained.
He loved watching baseball, hockey and wrestling; this kept him busy throughout the seasons. Dad also loved to collect all kinds of
miscellaneous objects from the neighbourhood where he fixed them up and gave away later.
Dad had suffered a few heart attacks which left him unable to drive. A scooter was introduced to him, which he then rode quite often
to do his banking, shopping and especially to go to Salisbury House Restaurant for his favourite breakfasts.
With his health diminishing, he moved into the Maples Personal Care Home in the spring of 2013, where he was looked after very well.
