Obituary of EILEEN MAY SWIDEREK
Eileen May Swiderek (nee Marcyniuk) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 28, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital ICU. Eileen, beloved mother and Baba, passed away at the age of 72.
She is survived by her loving children, Cathy Guttek, Raymond (Nicole) Swiderek, and Donna Swiderek . Grandchildren Justin and Ryan Guttek and Janelle and Denyse Swiderek. Nephew Doug Jentsch (Lucy), their children Ariel and Terra Jentsch and nephew Donald Jentsch.
She was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Mary Marcyniuk, sister Dorothy, brother-in-law Gerald Jentsch, Aunt Pauline Bohonis and numerous other aunts, uncles and cousins.
Growing up, Eileen spent many summers on the farm in Hazelridge with her many aunts and uncles as her mom passed away in 1940 when she was just 14 months old.
She was a proud R.N. working at several places including the Grace Hospital. Before her retirement in 2005, she spent 23 years at HSC Rehab on the Spinal Cord and Amputee ward. She always enjoyed the nursing reunions with the class of 1962 and valued her nursing friends. As a single mom she worked hard and provided all she could for her children.
Eileen enjoyed cooking, especially Cherry Brandy Christmas cake, cheese cakes, pyrogies, cabbage rolls and blood sausage, which she would share with co-workers, family, friends, and hairdressers. She also made many needlepoint pictures, which relatives often received as gifts. Her favourite was The Last Supper, which took 18 years to complete. Eileen always had a camera handy and she has more than 55 albums to prove it.
Eileen cherished all of her dogs, cats and cockatiels throughout the years. She enjoyed flowers and plants, and it was common to see her with a overflowing shopping cart coming from the greenhouse down the street. While raising her family, she loved to spend her summers at the cabin her father built at Star Lake.
She will be remembered as a fun loving, smiling, and generous individual.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, January 2 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street with Pastor David Saude officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society (45 Hurst Way) or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
A special thank you and love to my children Cathy, Ray and Donna. We came through many ups and downs and all turned out well. My children and their families gave me much love and laughs especially at Christmas playing our "game". There are many Baba stories that the children will share for many years to come.
