Obituary of MARY KONECHNY
It is with great sorrow that the family of Mary Konechny announces her passing on Friday, December 30, 2011 at Holy Family Home. Mary, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother passed away peacefully at the age of 90 years.
Mary is survived by three sons: Joe (Sandy) of Winnipeg, Michael (Sande) of Saskatoon and Ed (Sharon) of Winnipeg, eight grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her passing sister Millie (Ben) Sveinson, sisters-in-law Mary Prokopich, Rose Prokopich, and Catherine Capka and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband William in 1999, son Irvin in 1997 (surviving wife Edna).
Mary immigrated to Canada with her parents and 5 siblings in 1938 and settled on a farm in Ste. Anne. In 1940 she married William Konechny and moved to the family farm near Sanford. Mary enjoyed all aspects of farm life, especially gardening. She enjoyed raising her 4 sons, taking great pride in them, and later in the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her hobbies included embroidery, making braided rugs and cooking. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining friends and family. In her spare time she would read mostly Catholic devotional material. After her husband passed, she stayed on the farm site as long as her health allowed. Eventually she moved to the Sanford manor and then to Holy Family Home. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the entire staff in the St. John’s Unit for the excellent care they have given to our mother as well as Dr. T. Babick and the Sisters.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday January 4, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. followed by the Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Kevin Bettens officiating. Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to Holy Family Home – St. John’s Ward, 165 Aberdeen Ave, Winnipeg, MB R2W 1T9.
