MARON MAXIM

Obituary of MARON MAXIM

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Maron Maxim, aged 88 years, on December 29, 2011. Our beloved father enjoyed a long, rich life, having immigrated to Canada, at age 5, himself the eldest of 3 children, to face the adversity of an immigrant, the ravages of the Depression, and enlistment in World War II. He served with the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and was posted to England. He did not dwell on his wartime experiences; but was proud to be a Vet and Canadian. He faced adversity squarely. To him, it presented challenges from which arose opportunity. It was the wellspring for his inventive mind. "Mike" was a railroader with the CNR serving as Carman, welder and a project specialist finding improvements and solutions through the application of his imaginative talents. His craftsmanship extended to custom trailers, hitches, railings, and school gym basketball hoops. He was an artisan in metal and woodworks. His interests included hunting, fishing, archery, darts, pool, oil painting, playing the saxophone, photography, gardening, education and pets. He was an accomplished scuba diver. His retreats at Brereton Lake and Balaton Beach were magnets of escape for family, relatives and friends. Dad married Anne Zawaly and raised 4 children: Gregory, Hilary, Yvonne and Joy. Devoted and loving parents, they shared 57 years together. Anne predeceased Maron in 2001. He is survived by his children. By nature, Dad was creative, modest, generous, social and outgoing. He took time to invest in the lives of others, fostering and valuing their friendship. He devoted time to community service. God Speed, God Bless to our Beloved Mentor and Champion! Special thanks to Concordia Hospital doctors and nursing staff – Kent, Suzanne, Donna, Darren –for their attentive care. Private Ceremony at Maron’s request, Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hull’s Haven Border Collie Rescue c/o 88 McAdam Street, Winnipeg, R2W OA4 are welcome.
