Obituary of Kazmer BIELSKI
KAZMER BIELSKI
May 23, 1922 - December 27, 2009
It is with great sadness, to announce the peaceful passing of Kazmer Bielski, at the Riverview Health Centre with his family at his side on December 27, 2009 at the age of 87 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons Brian (Sharon) , David (Luanne) , Tad (Kelly) . Grandchildren Stephanie, Kathryn, and Christina. Sister-in-law Bernice Peterson and niece Karen Peterson. Predeceased by wife Helen on August 29, 1998, and daughter Barbara on September 27, 2009.
Kazmer Bielski was born in Krzeszowice, Poland and endured much hardship. He was orphaned at a young age and his teen years were spent in a Russian labour camp. During World War 2 he joined the Polish Army and served throughout Europe and the Middle East. He survived the Battle of Monte Cassino, Italy, where many of his friends and comrades were lost. He also served time in Iraq during the 1940's where the Polish and allied forces prevented the oilfields from falling into enemy hands.
Kazmer immigrated to Canada in 1948 and married Helen (Baraschuk) in 1954. He worked at CP Rail Weston Shops in Winnipeg for 35 years as a carman retiring on July 15, 1983. In 1970 he built a cottage at Victoria Beach ,MB, where the family spent many wonderful summers. He volunteered his time at Canadian Legion #246 until he could no longer do so due to failing eyesight. In his later years he enjoyed spending time at the mall with the "coffee club" retirees and trips to Perkins and Tim Hortons with his sons David and Brian. Dad was very independent and lived alone in his own apartment up until 3 months before his passing. We will miss his kind and generous spirit and cherish the wonderful memories we had together.
In keeping with Kazmer's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society, CNIB, or The Kidney Foundation.
