Obituary of Olga BOTAN

OLGA BOTAN nee Teleglow Beloved wife of the late Harry Botan, mother, grandmother, sister, passed away March 25, 2009. Olga was 86 years young. Missing her smile are her seven children and 8 grandchildren; June and Rick Jackett, Christie and Todd; Darlene and Bill Hrynchyshyn, Sonia; Ken and Michelle Botan; Allan Botan and Sheryl Stern, Daniel, Leah, David; Peter Botan; Valerie Botan; Angie Botan and Greg Grasdahl, Scott and Holly. Also her brothers John and Nick Teleglow and their families, as well as the families of the late Clarence Teleglow. Mom was born in Druszkopol, Ukraine and immigrated to Canada in 1937 with her parents, Peter and Patricia Teleglow and her 4 brothers, Clarence, John, Nick and Mitchell. The family began farming in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, and eventually purchased their own homestead in Anola, Manitoba. Although Mom moved to the city at 18, she continued being a devoted daughter and helped with the farm whenever she could. Mom will be remembered for her beautiful soprano voice. She sang constantly around the house. Mom sang with the Russian Choir for many years. Later she joined the Ukrainian choir at the Ukrainian Labour Temple and continued to sing with the Senior Choir at the Lviv Pavilion during Folklorama until 2006. It was at the Russian Hall that she met Harry, whom she married in June 10, 1944. Mom was in constant motion. If she wasn't cooking something, she was canning something. If you go to the house you will still see evidence of her preserves, pickles and jams. Mom started bowling at 60!! She loved bowling in a League and proudly displayed her bowling trophies in the living room. She loved playing bingo at the UNF hall and it didn't take much coaxing to get her out to play. Thanks Auntie Lydia!! Mom could really cook up a storm. It didn't matter whether it was summer or winter, if you came for supper you got the whole nine yards. Of course, her greatest accomplishment was her children. She took such pride in their achievements. She carried around ALL the pictures we sent as if that was her way of keeping us all close to her. Her purse weighed a ton!! She delighted in showing the pictures and telling all who would listen about the latest exploits of her brood. She will be forever missed. Thank you to Deer Lodge and Riverview for their excellent care of Mom. Visitation will be held on March 29, 7-8 PM at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 30 at 10AM also at the Chapel. Interment to follow in Brookside Cemetery.
