Obituary of Alexander Boyko

ALEXANDER BOYKO After a lengthy illness, Alexander Boyko passed away peacefully on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Seven Oaks General Hospital at the age of 85 years. Alexander will be lovingly remembered by his wife Olga of 59 years; daughter Marlene (Steve) Studeny, Janice (Ed) Howard, Carol (Rick) Kowalski, Debbie (Kim) Renaud; grandchildren Steven (great granddaughter Nariah) Studeny, Keith Studeny, Kim Jr. (Rhian) (great grandson Hadyn) Renaud, Christopher (Mandy) Renaud, Jared (Pam) (great granddaughter Jordyn) Howard, Kristy (Joel) Kowalski, Carly Kowalski. He is also survived by brother Bill in Toronto, sister Sophie Yaworski in Winnipeg; sisters and brothers-in-law Kay Boyko of Toronto, Steve and Mary Masnyk of Winnipeg, Helen Belbos of Winnipeg, Nick and Mavis Stebnicki of Hialeah, Florida, Irene Stebnicki and also many nieces, nephews and friends. Alexander was predeceased by his parents Sophie and Samuel; brothers Charlie, Nick, Mike, John, Fred and Peter; sisters Mary Gawron, Lena Nazar and Kay Tomko. Dad was born on August 9, 1924 in Prawda, MB. As a young man he worked in bush camps, mines, Dominion Bridge, and finally CNR until his retirement in 1985. Family was the most important thing to Dad, He cherished his grandchildren very much his Sunday morning visits were always a thrill to them. He took pride in all he did. He loved to play cards, watch wrestling, hockey, baseball and football. Whenever the Blue Bombers played he made sure to watch them on television or listen to his transistor radio. He was a true fan of both Blue Bombers and Labatt's Blue. Dad especially enjoyed his walk to the Ukrainian National Home at McGregor and Burrows where he played shuffleboard and indulged in a few bubblies. Dad loved to travel to such places as Grand Beach, Hawaii, Chicago, Vancouver, Toronto, Grand Forks, and Florida. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the staff of Seven Oaks Hospital floor 5, Dr. Warriach and a special thank you to Kora and her team on 3, unit 3, where Alex resided for most of his stay, special thank you to Susan, Ofelia, Teresa, Debbie and Gloria who comforted him in his last days. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. Flowers gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations in his memory may be made to Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of your choice.
