MARY ANNE DONNA CAHILL
(NEE PITTARELLI)
January 5, 1938-December 30, 2008
Mary Cahill passed away on December 30, 2008 at Riverview Centre in the presence of her brothers.
She was predeceased by her parents Dominic and Josephine Pittarelli.
Mary will be sadly missed by her brothers Anthony and Dominic Pittarelli as well as her friends and extended family.
Upon completion of her university education Mary taught at St. Ignatius School, Andrew Mynarski, Isaac Brock, Wellington, before becoming a consultant with the Winnipeg School Division. Following further specialized education Mary became a reading recovery teacher (Ralph Brown School) and then a Certified Reading Clinician with the Child Guidance Clinic. Mary's respect for education and the importance of reading led to her active participation as a board member of Bookmates, as President of the Manitoba Chapter of Reading Clinicians, as Chapter President of Delta Kappa Gamma. In all these capacities she was respected for her work ethic, her profound insights and her quick wit.
Mary's deep religious faith was in daily evidence. She exemplified integrity, humility, compassion, generosity, dedication and self-sacrifice. Notably she was accepting of others. A true friend, she was supportive in time of need. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Blessed John XXIII Roman Catholic Church, 3390 Portage Avenue with Rev. Msgr. Maurice Comeault, P.H. presiding. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery.
