Obituary of RUBY IRENE DEBIUK
Ruby Irene Debiuk (Linklater)
August 15, 1921 - January 5, 2012
Peacefully, with family by her side at St. Joseph’s Residence on the eve of January 5th, 2012, Mom passed away at the age of 90 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Joyce, Yvonne (Sigi), Bill, Wayne (Sharon), Rob (Robbie), Debbie (Morris), 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and sisters Lucille and June (Bob).
Mom was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, George, along with many other loved ones whom she missed dearly.
Mom was born in Winnipeg, the eldest of 7 children, and later moved to Stony Mountain where she met the love of her life. They were married in 1943 and raised their 6 children in their Flora Avenue home.
Mom spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing large family meals, and enjoyed baking, gardening, sewing, and especially knitting and crocheting, a hobby that she carried with her for her whole life. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Legion branch #141, where she spent many hours volunteering and created many wonderful friendships.
Mom will be remembered as the silent strength of the family, always available with a listening ear and knowledgeable advice to offer in return. She had a strong intuition which she shared and passed along to many of her children and grandchildren.
Family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Blood Disorder Program at HSC for giving us one more Christmas with Mom. We would also like to thank the caring staff at St. Joseph’s Residence for their wonderful compassion and benevolence throughout the years, we appreciate you more than you know.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 1:00 pm.
