George CONSTANTINIDIS

Obituary of George CONSTANTINIDIS

GEORGE CONSTANTINIDIS February 5, 1930 - March 30, 2010 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our loving husband, father, and grandfather George Constantinidis, who was taken on March 30, 2010 by our Heavenly Father to continue his journey in eternal life. He will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by his wife of 50 years, Constantina, daughter Toula (Steve), sons Bob (Belle, and grandchildren Daniel and Catie) and John. George is survived by his sisters Irini, Evangeline (Gabriel), sister-in-law Chrisoula, brother Perikli (Efstathia) and numerous relatives and friends in Canada and Greece who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Haralambos and Sevasti, father and mother-in-law Ioannis and Posoula, brother Stelio, brother-in-law Basil and brother-in-law Themi. George will also be missed by his wife's brothers Bob and Panayioti and their families. George was born on February 5, 1930 in Sigri, Lesvos, Greece. As a young man he served as a police officer. In 1956, he immigrated to Canada to begin a new life. In 1959, he married Constantina and they began their beautiful journey together. While building a family of his own, George also brought many family members from Greece to join him in Canada. George's children and Constantina were the love of his life and he was most happy when spending time with them. George was a devout man and a long-time member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church. He also volunteered at the Greek Pavilion during Folklorama. In his spare time, George also loved to garden, listen to his short wave radio, make family movies and journal. He had a big heart and always wanted to help everyone to the best of his ability. His home was always filled with family and friends, love and laughter. Everyone was welcome. George worked in the construction business for many years with his brother Stelio. In 1985, he could no longer work after being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis. The illness would never debilitate his faith, his love or his kindness to all those around him. George's family loved and cherished their moments together. They will miss him dearly. The family would like to thank the staff of Tuxedo Villa for their compassion and kindness during George's days under their care. Special thanks to Thea Chrisoula and family, Theo Frank and family, the Louizos family, Sophia, the ladies of Philoptochos and all his friends and family who came to visit him. Prayers will be held on Monday, April 5, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral is Tuesday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Theodore Paraskevopoulos officiating the services at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave., Winnipeg. Interment will follow at Waverley Memorial Gardens, 1501 Waverley Street.
