Obituary of Edward Dirr
EDWARD FRANK DIRR
It is with heavy hearts the family announces the passing of Edward Dirr on June 3, 2010.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Carol, son Garry (Sharon), daughter Sheree Yablecki (Paul), grandchildren Tasha, Jordan, Jessica, Katie and Eva. He is also survived by his sisters Kay and Joyce and brother Frankie and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Anna and Frank and his brother Clarence.
Edward was born in Winnipeg May 4, 1924. He graduated from St. John's Tech in 1942. After graduation, he enlisted in the merchant navy and proudly served his country overseas until 1945. Upon return to Winnipeg, he started employment with Swift's and remained there until its closing in 1979.
His caring, loving spirit for his fellow man was evident throughout his life as witnessed by those who came across his path. Always a friend, never an enemy, Ed had an innate quality that made everyone gravitate to him. If greatness is measured in terms of the lives one touches, his was a life to be proud of. His zest for life was only surpassed by the love he had for his family. Many a night were spent around the campfire at his beloved Falcon Lake with good conversation and a beer in hand, often ending the evening with a rousing game of crib.
A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 9, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
