Obituary of Mary Edwards
MARY MARGARET EDWARDS (nee McAleese) March 16, 1917 - March 19, 2011
Peacefully in her 94th year, Margaret passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Concordia Hospital.
Margaret will be lovingly remembered by her sons Gary and Ralph; her daughter Colleen, and her grandchildren Jim (Swaffer) and Carolyn.
Born in Montreal and orphaned at a young age, she was raised by an extended family of McAleeses. After marrying George (predeceased), they raised a growing family, moving to Winnipeg in 1949, back to Montreal in 1963, to Maine in 1970, and back to Winnipeg in 1980.
Margaret was very active, never content to sit still when she could be swimming, skating, and downhill skiing. She even took up cross-country skiing in her 50's.
Proudly Irish, her favourite day of the year was St. Patrick's Day, a day when she could be found dressed in green, singing a song, and telling a joke. Sadness touched her life with the deaths of her daughter Maureen (Swaffer), her son-in-law Ron (Swaffer), and her granddaughter Gail (Ashton), but she was one resilient lady.
The Edwards family wishes to gratefully thank the extended Swaffer family for all their kindness and help throughout the years, and in particular Madeline Swaffer.
In keeping with Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 22 at 3:00 p.m. at Holy Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 264 Donwood Drive, North Kildonan.
Flowers are gratefully declined.
