Obituary of Tadeusz Ekiel

Tadeusz (Ted) Micha? Ekiel August 12, 1923 - April 2, 2010 On Friday, April 2, after a lengthy illness, Tadeusz passed away with his family by his side. He leaves behind his beloved wife Eugenia, daughters Anna Laczkowski (Andrew), Mary Anna (Timothy), grandchildren Timothy (Amy), Gregory (Courtney), Aaron (Julie), Elizabeth and seven great-grandchildren (Andrew, Tate, Luke, Lili, Coralie, Bryce, Lainey). He was predeceased by his son Joseph, father W?adyslaw, mother Helena, sister Danuta, brother-in-law Eugeniusz and niece Jola. Tadeusz was born on August 12, 1923 in Warsaw, Poland and lived there until the uprising in 1944. During the uprising he and his father became separated from his mother and sister and they were taken to Weisbaden where they worked in forced labour camps. When the war ended Tadeusz and his father went in search of their family and found Helena and Danuta in Hannover. Together they lived in a displaced persons camp. While in camp he worked in the offices of the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and the International Refugee Organization. At the same time he became a member of the Boy Scouts of Hanover. It was while working in the camp offices that he met Eugenia and they were married on June 29, 1946. In 1948 he left Hannover to immigrate to Canada. Upon his arrival at the port in Halifax, he journeyed to Manitoba where he worked on farms on the outskirts of Winnipeg. In 1949 he moved to Winnipeg where Eugenia arrived to join him, along with their daughter Anna. Together they established their roots in Winnipeg. Two years later their younger daughter Mary was born. From 1949 to 1956 he worked at various jobs. In 1957 he joined the Ford dealership of Dominion Motors and worked there for 27 years. From Dominion Motors he moved on to work for Keystone Ford. He became a true Ford man and his family was well trained to understand that you just could not beat a Ford. He was an active parishioner of Holy Ghost Parish since 1949, and a member of many parish committees and organizations. He received a special recognition from the Church for his parish work. Ted was a very loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a very loyal, serious, dedicated and faithful man in all his endeavours in life. He was someone you could always depend on. He was not a stranger to adversity and it was his trust in God that always kept him strong. The family wishes to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. George Balko, Dr. Steve Mink, Dr. Jillian Horton and the staff of GA4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their professional and compassionate care. In memory of Ted, donations may be made to Holy Ghost Church, 341 Selkirk Avenue, Winnipeg, MB, R2W 2L8. Prayers will take place at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. on Friday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m. Mass pf Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. on Saturday, April 10 at 10:00 a.m. with an Oblate Father officiating. Interment will take place at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In death you have left us Tadeusz, And our hearts ache, But life is eternal so love shall remain and At God's own time, we pray, We shall meet again.
