Obituary of PETER KISIL

PETER KISIL After the recent passing of his beloved wife Ann (of 72 years), Peter passed away peacefully on October 12, 2011 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 96. He will be remembered by, sons Jack (Lorraine), David (Myrna), grandchildren Susan and Gary Bell (Kristen,Talianna), Douglas and Kathy Kisil (Max, Sam, Jack) , Janis and Graham Roxburgh (Kate, Alexander, Britton,Tayler), Paul and Michele Kisil (Lauren, Serah), Sandra and Justin Copp (Anabel, Charles, Molly), Stephen and Jaclynn Kisil ( Kyla, Brady), Peter Kisil and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was born in Winnipeg on October 6, 1915. He was the second eldest son of seven children born to Stephen and Marie Kisil (nee Petryk) who emigrated in 1904 from Ternopil, Western Ukraine. Peter was predeceased by his mother Marie, father Stephen, sisters Anne Kisil, Olive Kisil, Alice Prytula and brothers, Michael, Harold, and Walter. Peter was educated in East Kildonan, starting his business career in his father’s grocery store. In 1937, he began a 39 year association in the beverage industry with Brewery Products, Sheas and Labatt Breweries serving in sales, marketing and management. Peter was always active in sports, especially baseball, bowling, curling and golf, being a former long time member of Elmhurst Golf and Country Club. Peter was an active member of Holy Eucharist Parish; Sts. Vladimir and Olga Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral; the Ukrainian Professional and Business Club of Winnipeg; Sons of Ukrainian Pioneers, Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Branch 141 of the Royal Canadian Legion, being honoured with an Honorary Life Membership in 1990. Peter married Ann (nee Capp) on September 30, 1939 and together enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Twin Lakes Beach, winter trips to Hawaii, Texas, Palm Springs, Mexico and Germany, later spending many winters at the family condo in Naples Florida. They enjoyed fellowship with their friends while residing during their latter years at Holy Family Tower at 147 Aberdeen in the City of Winnipeg and cherished their association with the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate. We wish to extend our appreciation to the medical team and nursing staff on 5E at St. Boniface Hospital. The family is grateful for the spiritual support of Archbishop M. Bzdel and the prayers of the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate and friends of the family. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00am Monday, October 17, 2011 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, 505 Watt St. with Rev. Dr. M Kwiatkowski officiating and Deacon Victor Humniski assisting. Pallbearers will be Peter’s grandsons, Dr. Douglas Kisil, Dr. Paul Kisil, Stephen Kisil, Peter Kisil, Justin Copp, and nephews Ronald Kisil and Glenn Kisil. We are grateful for the recent donations in memory of Ann Kisil, which will be also considered as a donation in memory of Peter Kisil. However, other donations may be directed to the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate at 131 Aberdeen Avenue or to the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church at 505 Watt Street.
