Obituary of Margaret Fasterback
MARGARET STELLA FASTERSHANK January 24, 1931 - May 19, 2011
With the love of her family around her, Margaret passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord. Margaret was born in Elphinstone, MB, the first child of John and Rose Fastershank. Within the next six years, a sister and then three brothers would follow. While still a young girl, her father moved the family to Winnipeg. Due to the circumstances of the time, the family moved from house to house and in order to help out at home, Margaret took her first part-time job while in high school. After graduation, she went to work for Western Union. Like her father, Margaret also felt the need to move around and in 1955 she packed her bags and headed south to Atlanta, GA. After a brief stay, she left Atlanta and landed in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. and shortly after that entered the restaurant industry. She went on to become the manager of Stan's and then Bon Appetit. While running these operations, it was here that "Marge" would "hobnob" with various pro athletes, movie stars, and business and political "big-wigs". Marge was our "cool" auntie that seemed to be known and loved by all that met her. Whenever family or friends from Canada came to visit, Margaret made sure they were well looked after. In 1997, after she retired, Margaret returned to Winnipeg to be with her family. Although she never married, the one constant in her life was her dogs - these were her "babies" and they were with her almost to the end of her life.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Lawrence, Norman and Nelson and her sister Nellie.
She leaves to mourn her passing, two sisters-in-law Clara and Roberta, seven nieces and nephews with their spouses and families, her aunts Nellie, Vicky, Eleanor and Teenie, numerous cousins and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the doctors and nurses of Seven Oaks for all they did to keep Auntie comfortable in her last days, as well as the staff at CancerCare Manitoba who were a big part of her support system over the last few years.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, May 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery; Fr. Bohdan Lukie C.Ss.R. officiating.
Pallbearers will be her great-nephews Myles, Jordan, Kyle, Alex, Raymond, and Josh.
Flowers are gratefully declined. If family and friends so desire, donations can be made to a local animal shelter.
