Obituary of Alice Fidkalo
ALICE FIDKALO October 11, 1929-October 8, 2010
Alice Fidkalo (nee Krawchuk) died peacefully on October 8, 2010 in the comfort of her home with her husband, daughter and grandson at her side.
She was the youngest in her family and is predeceased by her parents Alexander and Mary Krawchuk, brothers Norm and Wally Krawchuk, sister Helen Krawchuk and sister Mary Bodnarchuk. She will be greatly missed by her husband Maron Fidkalo, daughter Debi, son in-law Jeff, and three grandchildren Brian, Adam and Lisa Hunter.
Alice was a gentle spirit who always loved to volunteer in the church. In her earlier years she volunteered with the Home and School Organization. Later she became a teacher's aide in the Winnipeg School Division. She loved children and always prayed for everyone around her. She had many wonderful friends in her church. She enjoyed learning and would study the sacraments. Her notes were meticulous. She taught catechism for two decades at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was an understanding ear to the concerns of others. Alice seemed to have great wisdom as well as a gentle spirit.
Alice suffered with Alzheimer's and breast cancer the last 8 years. Her faith in God and love for her husband made her persevere.
We would like to thank Father Bohdan Lukie who arrived unexpectedly minutes before her death and the wonderful Home Care Staff for all their support over the last four years. In lieu of flowers please make donations to your charity of choice: either the Alzheimer's Society or Canadian Breast Cancer Society.
Prayers will be on Wednesday October 13, 2010 at 7:00 p.m.at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main Street. Divine Liturgy will be on Thursday October 14, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church at 250 Jefferson Avenue. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
