Obituary of Joan FIRMAN
JOAN JULIA FIRMAN
(1935-2008)
Peacefully on June 23, 2008, Joan passed away a few weeks short of her 73rd birthday at the Poseidon Care Centre.
Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband Murray on May 19, 2005, her parents Sophie and Frank Podborochynski and brother-in-law Stanley Firman.
Joan is survived by her sister Alice; brother-in-law Andrew Lutz; nephews Robert (Barb); Douglas (Mallory); sister-in-law Anna Firman; nephews David (Gail) Stewart; niece Katherine Van Leewen (Barry) and many relatives in Poland.
After graduating from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing, Joan did Public Health nursing in the Steinbach area. In August of 1958 she married her high school sweetheart Murray. She attended the University of Manitoba in 1959-60 to obtain a Certificate in Public Health, returning to work in the St.Vital Health Unit. In 1962 Joan and Murray moved to San Luis Obispo California where Murray attended college while Joan worked in various clinics. They had a passion for travel and made numerous trips to Europe and visited relatives in Poland. They traveled extensively in the U.S.A. while living in California from 1962-66. Their trips also included the Scandinavian countries, Hong Kong, Egypt, Bali, India, New Zealand, Australia as well as South America. In latter years they spent a considerable time on the big island of Hawaii. During her lifetime Joan had many hobbies. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, and did beautiful needlepoint.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jain, nurses, aides and all other staff at the Poseidon Care Centre for their compassionate care of Joan.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers a donation in Joan's memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
" When I come to the end of the road. And the Sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little, not too long, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the good times we once shared. Miss me- but let me go!!"
