Obituary of Jose FURTADO
JOSE RAPOSO FURTADO
June 12, 1937 - October 22, 2010
On October 22, 2010, Jos passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 73 years.
Jos is survived by his loving wife Maria da Luz; three daughters Ana (Jos) Pavao, Grimoalda (Joo) Ferreira and Filomena (Emanuel) Couto; eight grandchildren Allan (Marcia), Jonathan, Andy, Adam, Jessica, Jordan, Devon and Kaitlynn; sisters Maria, Otilia, Diolinda; his favourite niece Josefina (Asterio) Melo and too many more nieces, nephews and Godchildren to mention but not forgotten.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacinto and Mariana; brothers Eduardo and Antonio.
Jos married his sweetheart on May 31, 1959. A union that blossomed for 51 years. Together they started their family, having 3 girls (as Suas Trs Rosas). Wanting a better life he started a new chapter and he immigrated to Canada in February of 1966. The hardest part was leaving his family behind. In November of 1967 his family reunited and a challenging yet fulfilling life began. Dad's two favourite hobbies were gardening and his Christmas lights. In the summer his little corner of the world bloomed with vibrant colours and in the winter he lit up his neighbourhood with a luminous Christmas display, to the joy and delight of all the neighbourhood children and adults alike.
His most precious moments were spent with his family by his side. His eyes and heart lit up whenever he was surrounded by his beloved grandchildren.
Dad was burdened by many, many health problems yet he fought a brave and courageous battle right until the end. Your pain and suffering have ended as you enter your last chapter.
Prayers will be said on Monday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. N. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 26 at 9:00 a.m. also at the Church with Rev. Fr. Wladimir Porreca as Celebrant. Entombment to follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue West. Honorary pallbearers will be all six of his grandsons.
If friends so desire, donations may be made in Jos's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, and/or CancerCare Manitoba.
We love you, we miss you. Till we meet again. Descance em paz Querido Marido, Pae, Av e Sogro.
