Obituary of Joan HARRISON
JOAN AUDREY HARRISON
(nee WATOWICH)
Peacefully on Saturday, June 14, 2008, Joan Harrison passed away at Tache Centre at 74 years of age, after a 27 year courageous fight with multiple sclerosis.
She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by daughter Lynn & partner John, son Peter, her 98 year old mother, Mary, brother Stanley, sister-in-law Vera, brother Kenneth, and grandchildren, Nicole, Larissa and Blake. Joan will be reunited with her son David who passed away in 2000, her brother Edward in 1990 and father Joseph in 1984. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, a host of relatives, friends and neighbours.
Joan was born on December 14, 1933 in Winnipeg. She lived most of her life in East Kildonan, attending Lord Wolseley and Prince Edward Schools and was a parishioner at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church. A kind and friendly person, with a quick smile, Joan was liked by everyone she met. Joan was very devoted and dedicated to her family, always putting her children first. Her proudest accomplishment was graduating as a Licensed Practical nurse while working and raising 3 children on her own. Joan worked several years as a nurse at the Children's Hospital and at the McPhillips Medical Group until her illness.
The family would like to extend many special thanks to Carmelle and the staff on 4DE at Tache Centre for our mom's wonderful and compassionate care over the last 17 years.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society of Canada - Manitoba Division, 100-1465 Buffalo Place, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 1L8.
