Obituary of Olga Hladki
OLGA HLADKI
It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Olga on July 17, 2010.
She was predeceased by her husband Zanko, a daughter at birth, her brother Mike, and her sister Jane.
Leaving to cherish her memory are; daughter Sandra (David), son Gordon (Paula), grandchildren Kristi (Andrew), Kerry (Sammy), Erika (David), Maryka (Rob), Matthew (Laura), and Shannon, great-grandchildren Aidan, Isaiah, and Jonah Jarmus, Sarah Chu, Zachary and Luke Cajic, and Regan Hladki.
Olga was born in Winnipeg, July 24, 1917. Her love of playing sports started early and continued until her late 80's. She became a well-known softball player with the CUAC Blues, beginning at age 14 and playing for 10 years. She even competed in the Provincial Championship Finals on the eve of her wedding. She also played basketball and was a speed skater.
She was a superb seamstress, making clothing for everyone, and made many beautiful wedding dresses. She went on to work at Malabars sewing costumes and Gaspards sewing church vestments. She did all this while raising her and Zanko's family.
In her 40's she switched careers and became a school secretary. In her spare time she learned to do synchronized swimming.
When she and Zanko moved to Chatham, Ontario she was the secretary for the Kent County Board of Education. Now in her 60's she took up golfing and curling, with her usual enthusiasm and continued until she was 85. She and Zanko had a large, warm circle of family and friends with whom they spent many wonderful times together on picnics, spending time at Grand Beach, Falcon Lake, and wiener roasts at the Mink Ranch. When Zanko passed away Olga returned to Winnipeg to live, savouring 20 wonderful years with her family.
A special thanks is extended to all the staff at River Park Gardens for their patience, caring, and kindness during the last two and half years.
Prayers will be said at 7:00 PM Wednesday, July 21 with the Funeral Service at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 22 at Cropo Funeral Chapel 1442 Main and Inkster, with interment in Elmwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Olga's memory may be made to Holy Cross Mission Parish. P.O. Box 23009 RPO McGillivray, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 5S3.
