Dorothy Gertrude Hoye (nee Baker) 21 December 1917 - 6 April 2010 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy. She rejoins her husband, Bill, parents Frank and Ethel Baker, two sisters Edith Hall and Margaret and brother-in-law Dean Hughes, and daughter-in-law Sheila Hoye. Survived by son, Don (Donna) Hoye, and daughter, Diane (Randy) Oystreck, grandchildren Adam, Bree (Vlad), Bryce, Jaclyn and Jonny, three step-grandchildren, Sherene, Sharlene and Rayna and their spouses, eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, sister Betty (Laurie) McGregor, brother-in-law George Hall, numerous nieces and nephews, and treasured sister-in-law Florence Hoye, who shared the family home with Dorothy and Bill for 60 years. Born in Pincher Creek, AB, Mom lived in Portage La Prairie and then Winnipeg. She attended Kelvin High and graduated from United College. Married to Bill in 1948, she spent the rest of her life in West Kildonan. She was happy to be a homemaker, and also worked at the University of Manitoba Student Records for many years. Family, friends and the church were Mom's life. She was a dedicated member of Rosedale and then Kildonan United Church, singing in the church choir for over 50 years. She was a leader of the Explorers and Sunday school when her children were young, the "Regal Lady" for Kildonan United for many years, and longtime member of UCW. She also enjoyed Adult Club, Eating Club, New Years Eve Bunch, Lunch Bunch, and she was also a longtime member of the West Kildonan Curling Club. She sang with the Winnipeg Singing Seniors for many years, entertaining all around the city. She loved people and really lived the Christian life, being a friend to all. She was the family genealogist and photographer. She and Bill enjoyed all of their trips around the globe to places like Hawaii, Europe, China, Australia and Bali, to name a few. Mom loved her summers at the cottage in Matlock and was a summertime member of Winnipeg Beach United Church and the Matlock Community Club, as well as the Matlock CC church. Mom also loved the family cottage at Delta, cherishing her memories of childhood fun with sisters, cousins, and later nieces, nephews, and extended family. She organized many activities amongst her friends and made sure everyone had a ride to church and activities. Mom spent the last year and a half at Fred Douglas Lodge. The family will never forget the wonderful staff at Fred Douglas, for the loving care, compassion and respect they gave to Mom. Thanks so much! Memorial service will be held Friday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m., at Kildonan United Church, 187 Kilbride Avenue. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Manitoba or Kildonan United Church.
