Obituary of Maria JURKIEWICZ

MARIA JURKIEWICZ It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Maria, just 2 months short of her 85th birthday. Maria was predeceased by her husband Justyn in 2005. Maria was born in a small village in Ukraine on Sept 3, 1926. She had one brother and six sisters whom she visited in Ukraine numerous times over the years. She leaves behind one sister and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Maria left Ukraine at a very young age and worked in Germany and Poland where she met her future husband Justyn. They immigrated to Canada in 1960 and settled in Winnipeg. Maria was very proud to be a Canadian citizen and spoke highly of her "new home" Maria was an excellent seamstress- there wasn't much she couldn't sew. When she wasn't working as a seamstress, she could be found working around the house or in her garden. While physically very strong, dementia set in and Maria was admitted to Holy Family Nursing Home in 2008. A special thank you to all of the staff on 2-A who provided Maria with excellent care during her time there. In accordance with Maria's wishes, funeral services and interment will be held in her birth village in Ukraine, where she will be laid to rest along side those family members that predeceased her.
