Obituary of Peter KACAN
PETER KACAN
It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of Peter Kacan on August 18, 2009 at the age of 87, after a brief stay in hospital.
Peter was born on April 9, 1922 in Zhoda, Manitoba to Maria and Wasyl Kacan. He had three sisters, Anna (Marion Ciupa) of Sioux Lookout, Rose (Nicholas Ponto) and Jenny (Clarence Birch) of Thunder Bay. Peter grew up on the farm in Zhoda and left home to work in the mines and he would later work at Canada Meat Packers until his retirement. Peter never married and was a very private and independent person.
After his father passed away in l945 he was a very devoted son to his mother, visiting her frequently in both Sioux Lookout and Kenora until her passing in l982. Peter always telephoned his sisters on special occasions and wanted to know how each of their children were doing. When health permitted he would visit them. He lost Jenny in l986, Rose in 200l and Anna in 2004. He is survived by nieces, Marian (George) Langlois, Janice (Walter Kuch), and Maureen Baker and nephews Dan (Audrey) Ciupa, Arthur (Glenys) and John (Ria) Ponto. He was predeceased by niece Mary (Norman) Otto in 2007.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 24 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery.
