Obituary of William Koblansky
William (Bill) Koblansky
In the early morning hours of March 01, 2011, Bill passed away at home, as was his wish.
Left to cherish his memory, is his wife of 59 years, Martha, daughters Diane (Randy) and Shirley. Bill is also survived by his siblings, Nel Kirby, Rose Sciberras (Charlie), Bob Koblanski (Maureen), and Allan (Sylvi-Ann) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Emily Koblansky, and sisters Anne and Emily.
Bill was born on August 16,1922, and grew up in Elmwood. At 17, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy to serve in the Second World War. Bill was very proud of being a Veteran and has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for the past 40 years.
During his working life, Bill was employed as a bus driver for White Ribbon Bus Lines, servicing the Transcona area, and as a mail carrier for Canada Post.
Bill and Martha resided in Transcona for 10 years, then in Dugald, Manitoba for 30 years, before returning to Winnipeg, where they have resided for the last 15 years. Bill retired in 1978. In 1982 Martha and Bill decided to become "Snowbirds," travelling to Mesa, Arizona, which they were able to enjoy for the next 25 years. Bill and Martha were always happy to accommodate all of us escaping from the "North".
We wish to extend special thanks to Ann, Sona, Krystal, Junior, David, Krysty, Meryna, Lee and many others who were not only caregivers but valuable friends, and always treating Bill with such compassion and care.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 3:00 p.m., at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St.
Donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Elmwood Branch # 9, at 920 Nairn Ave.
