Obituary of GASTAO DA COSTA

GASTAO MARIO DA COSTA 1930 - 2011 On Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Health Science Centre, Gastao, with his family by his side, passed away at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Maria Eduarda. He also leaves his children Mario (Tammy), of Agassiz, BC and their children Laurie (Josh) of Minneapolis, Melanie of Winnipeg and Kirstin of Agassiz BC; Dennis (Edna) and their children Richard and Matthew; Anne (Paul ) Lima and their children Paul Jr. and Michael and his brothers Virato (Rosa) and Raul (Suzanne) all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents. God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to Me". With tearful eyes we watched you and saw you pass away, and although we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST. Gastao was born on November 17, 1930 in Rosario, Lagoa Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal. Gastao immigrated to Canada on March 16, 1957. He was employed with CN. In 1959 he married Maria and in 1961 their first son was born. In 1965 they welcomed the arrival of their second son and in 1972 they were blessed with a daughter. He did various jobs once his family arrived. He retired in 1991 at the age of 60. He liked many sports but his favorite was soccer. "YOU WILL FOREVER BE IN OUR HEARTS." The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all other staff that took care of him on H4 wing at Health Science Centre. Prayers will be said on Thursday, October 20,2011 at 7:30 pm at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2011, at 9:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, 181 Austin St. with Fr. W. Porreca officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Terry Fox Foundation.
