Tadeusz (Ted) Leczynski
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ted on December 17, 2008 at Bethania Personal Care Home. In 1985, he was predeceased by Alexandra, his wife of 40 years and married Barbara Smiglak in 1997. He will always be remembered and greatly missed by his loving wife Barbara, his children Kristina (Len), Elisabeth (Richard), Richard (Karen), grandchildren Karoline, David, Alexa, Liah, Christopher, Ainsly, great-grandson Wyatt, his family in Poland and his many friends. Ted was born on October 31, 1920 in Krakow, Poland. After completing his secondary education he entered the Military Academy in Grudziadz graduating just before the German's invasion of Poland in September 1939. He took an active part in the early days of the war, taken as POW he spent the next 5 years in German POW camps. After the liberation he joined the Polish Armed Forces in England, where he graduated in Mechanical Engineering from London Polytechnic. In 1946 he married Alexandra Szwed. In 1957, they and their three children immigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg. Ted was employed by Manitoba Hydro retiring in 1985.He was very active in the Polish community as President of the Polish-Canadian Congress, Vice President of the Polish Combatant Association Branch 13, Chief Editor of the Polish news paper Czas, director of the Polish radio program on CKYJ, TV program Polonika and one of the founders of the Turek charitable organization. The family wishes to thank homecare Susan and Danuta, and Bethania Personal Care Home for their help and kindness. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 22 at 11:00 am at St. Andrew Bobola Church, 541 Marion St. In lieu of flowers, donation in Ted's memory can be made to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home Inc. 1045 Concordia Ave. Cremation has taken place. Private interment to follow at a later date.
