Dora MACARIO

Obituary of Dora MACARIO

DORA ANNA (Di MASSO) MACARIO Our mother Dora went to be with daddy on February 21, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born to Pasquale and Maria Cristina Di Masso on April 16, 1920 in Scanno, Pro. L'Aquila, Italy. She was predeceased by our dad Guerino, her parents and her brothers Romolo and Dante; her in-laws Nicola and Angelica Macario, brothers-in-law Delio, Sereno and Orazio Macario, Pat Petraglia, Pat Di Nello and sisters-in-law Italia Macario and Marie Di Masso. Dora leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters Angelica (Mel) Biluk, Claudia (Mario) Di Fonzo, son Romeo (Maria) and twin sons Carlo (Bonnie) and Tony (Lori); grandchildren Audra (Mike) Nyhuis, Janine (Grant) Gaudes, Chris and Andrea Di Fonzo, Roman, Kelly, Vanessa, Denise, and Michael Macario, Shawna (Darcy) Campbell, Michelle (Chris) Zerr; great grandchildren Harley, Jaden, Carter and Parker. She is also survived by her sister Rina Di Nello, sisters-in-law Iolanda Macario and Maria Orazia Macario and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Italy, Pittsburgh, Vancouver and Winnipeg. Mom married dad on Oct. 16,1941. Typical of the time, dad immigrated to Canada in 1949 intent on securing a successful future for his family. Eventually mom joined him in Winnipeg in 1953 with their 3 children. One year later, the twins were born and the family was complete. Mom was a kind, loyal and gentle lady whose priorities were her family and her home. She took pride in her home-cooked meals and meticulously clean house. She made sure we grew up surrounded by love, laughter, family and friendship. Nothing pleased her more then to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren, especially on Sunday afternoons when any number of us appeared for a plate of pasta. As though a large family wasn't enough, mom and dad filled our home with aunts, uncles, cousins and life-long friends. It gave our parents joy and satisfaction to entertain everyone on a regular basis. As a result, our home was constantly filled with guests, and as is the custom in an Italian household, mom was a generous hostess. She entertained endlessly all the while laughing and enjoying herself. Many have commented that they will miss her hearty laugh. Thankfully, mom and dad's busy social life provided her with many happy memories. We would like to thank those responsible for mom's care during her illness. Thank you Jerry Floom and the staff from Home Care. Mom would not have been able to maintain her independence in her home for so many years without your determination to grant her wish. Most recently, thank you to the staff at Riverview Health Centre CD1 for your compassion and support during mom's final months, making her part of your family. Thank you also to Marisa and Romeo Durighello and Peter Sheridan for administering Holy Communion to mom on a regular basis. It was important to mom to know that her religious needs were being met. Joanne, a special thank you to you. Pallbearers will be mom's grandsons Chris Di Fonzo, Michael and Roman Macario, Mike Nyhuis, Grant Gaudes, Chris Zerr and nephews Stan Macario and Rossano Di Nicola. Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Saturday, February 27 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. with Reverend Father Sam Argenziano officiating. Entombment to follow at Eternal Memories Mausoleum, Waverley Memorial Gardens. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Riverview Health Centre Foundation CD1. Mom, finally you can rest in peace. We will miss you
