Obituary of William Manchulenko
William (Bill) Manchulenko
Surrounded by love and family, Bill was welcomed into God's arms on Sunday morning February 7, 2010 at 83 years of age.
Bill will be missed by his loving wife Phyllis and sons Howard (Michelle), Ken (Susan), Donald (Rhonda), Rob (Michelle); grandchildren Kevin (Heather), Cindy, Christie, Laura (Jean-Louis), Dan (Ryan), Steven, Jordan, Kimberley, Alycia, Kelsey; great-grandchildren Ravyn, Isaac, Malakai, Step-children Cathy (Don), Wayne (Lisa), Jason (Lauren); step-grandchildren Sheri, Lisa, Kristen, Harrison, Callaway, Jade, Ethan, and Addison.
He is predeceased by his parents George and Nellie, wife Marge (1999), sons Lawrence (1974), Allan (1966) and grandson Nicholas (1994).
Bill was born on December 10, 1926 in Arnaud, Manitoba. He resided in various locations throughout Manitoba until he settled in Rosser in 1961, where he raised his family. He worked for the CPR until he founded B.M. Drilling Co.Ltd. in 1968 and later retired in 1985.
Dad took enormous pleasure in his grandchildren, whether at their sports activities or Christmas concerts. He especially loved playing cards, dancing to Old Time and Ukrainian music, traveling to Texas (for 30 winters), woodworking in his shop, gardening, picking berries and mushrooms. Bill always found time to attend auctions and loved going to Old Time dances. The lake was also a place where he enjoyed relaxing while helping out with various projects. Last and most importantly, Dad loved to "slurp" homemade borscht, and savour perogies and cabbage rolls.
Bill was actively involved with his Church, golfed at the South Interlake Golf Club, and held the position of past president of the Rosser Curling Club. He also found time to coach hockey and baseball earlier in his life.
Pallbearers will be Bob Hladiuk, Douglas Neufeld, Darryl Manchulenko, John Manchulenko, Ken Mulligan, and Grant Thiessen.
Prayers will be said Wednesday, February 10, at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel at Main and Inkster. A private family church service will be held prior to the funeral. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 11 at 11:00 a.m. also at Cropo Funeral Chapel. Interment at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
Flowers are respectfully declined. If desired, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the MS Society.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nursing and medical staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital Cardiac Unit 5A. Specifically, family members wish to thank nurse "Amber" for her compassion and gentleness; and thanks to friends and family for their love and support.
