Obituary of Anne Maskell (Chimchak)
Anne Marie Maskell (Chimchak)
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Anne Marie Maskell on November 8, 2008.
She will be lovingly missed by her husband Ken, sons Craig (Suzanne), Mike (Sue), grandchildren Natalie and Christopher. She was predeceased by her father Michael in 2004, her sister Malvina in 2005, and her mother Maria in 2006. Anne had many friends and she wants them to know that she loved them all. Anne was born in Miriampol Poland on February 6, 1934, but by August 1939 her parents, Michael and Maria and her sister Malvina arrived in Canada and settled in the Winnipeg Beach area. Anne had her early education at Plum Ridge School and Teulon Collegiate. In 1957, she married Ken and settled into a new life on Vancouver Island, living in and around Comox, BC. In 1966, with a new job posting for Ken on the East coast of Canada, the family moved to Chatham, New Brunswick, where they lived until 1978. With Ken's retirement from the military, they moved once again to Winnipeg to be closer to Anne's family. Anne found employment with the Manitoba Lung Association in 1978, working as an Administrative Secretary for the Central Tuberculosis Registry. She spoke often of the challenges and rewards of working within this department, and wouldn't have changed it for the world. Many fond memories and friends were made throughout her career here. She retired in 1992. Anne's retirement years were spent focused on her garden, her green thumb evident to any and all who passed their wonderfully manicured yard. Antiques, and the love of collecting, took Anne to many garage sales and flea markets, always trying to find a bargain or that elusive addition to her miniatures collection. Baking various treats and goodies was also one of her favourite past-times. In her later years Mom found great enjoyment in reading various novels and watching over some of the neighbourhood feline population. The service will be held at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Winnipeg, on Thursday November 13, 2008 at 10:00AM. Interment will be at Holy Ghost Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of ones choice.
