Obituary of Kenneth McRAE

KENNETH WILLIAM McRAE November 24,1927-December 11,2009 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear brother and uncle at the Middlechurch Home on Friday evening, December 11, 2009. Ken is survived by his sister Joan, brother Gary (Kathie), nephew David (children Michelle, Brittany, Ivy and Brady). Ken was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Edith McRae. Ken was born in Winnipeg, and resided in the Brooklands-Weston area most of his life. He attended Brooklands School. Ken "Rode the Rails" to British Columbia in the 1940's. He worked in the logging camps on Vancouver Island and the Queen Charlotte Islands. In the late 50's he returned to Winnipeg. In 1963 he joined the City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Dept., retiring in 1988. Ken enjoyed working outside, even in winter he was out clearing the rinks before 5:00 a.m. In his retirement Ken enjoyed going fishing at George Lake in the Lac du Bonnet area. He was an Assoc. Member of the Brooklands-Weston Legion, where he enjoyed the "Oldtimers Group". In keeping with Ken's wishes, no formal memorial service will be held. Cremation has taken place with interment at a later date. The family wishes to thank the many staff and caregivers at the Middlechurch Home for their love and compassion towards Ken. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg Foundation Fund, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St. Paul, MB R4A 4A6.
