Obituary of Nadia NEGRICH

Nadia Negrich (nee Skremetka) Nadia Negrich (nee Skremetka) passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, surrounded by family, on August 4th at the age of 93. Nadia goes to join her beloved husband, Michael Negrich, who passed away in April of this year. Nadia was predeceased by her parents Michael & Tatiana Skremetka, sister Luba Waroway, brother Meron Skremetka and nephew Michael Skremetka. Nadia leaves behind her sister-in law Stella, nieces Irene (Paul), Linda (Peter) and Patricia, nephews Charles (Bernie) and Richard (Donna) and great nieces/nephews, Anne-marie, Jonathan, Stephen, Christina, Justin, Audra, Martin, Katelyn, Kiera, Rebecca and her life-long friend Irene Warecki. Nadia was born and raised in north Winnipeg and chose to spend her whole life there. She was a life-long learner and earned her Bachelor of Home Economics, Bachelor of Education and her Masters of Education all from the University of Manitoba. Nadia made her love of education her vocation and became a teacher. She taught at various schools in Winnipeg and ultimately became the Department head of Home Economics at Elmwood High. She helped and influenced many students over the years and is fondly remembered by them. Nadia was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and was a strong supporter of numerous cultural activities and organizations. Nadia was a member of Ukrainian National Home (since early childhood), Lesia Ukrainka Club, Alpha Omega and many other cultural organizations. Nadia credited her love of education and cultural activities to her parents who were also very active in the community. When Nadia wasn't teaching or doing the New York Times crossword puzzle, she was travelling. Nadia travelled extensively, visiting; Europe, the Mediterranean, Asia, the Middle East, South America and the South Seas. She especially enjoyed her trips back to the Ukraine to visit her relatives and her frequent visits to her nephews and nieces. We always teased her that she had seen 6 of the 7 wonders of the world and when was she going to see the last one. Nadia enjoyed people and had many diverse groups of friends; her book club, her Ukrainian bridge club and her English bridge club to name a few. Most of all Nadia enjoyed her family. She never missed spending Christmas and Easter, both Ukrainian and regular, with her family and her dinners are legendary. I think what we will miss most about Nadia will be her welcoming smile and the genuine warmth given to all who were lucky enough to cross her path. She had a way of making everyone feel special. Nadia had 3 guiding principles that she lived her life by, that we would like to share with you: 1) To thine own self be true. 2) Its the songs you sing and the smiles you wear that makes the sun shine everywhere. 3) Give the world your best and the best will come back to you. Please join us for a memorial service to celebrate a life well lived on Saturday August 29th at 2:00 PM, at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., reception to follow at Holy Trinity Cathedral, 1175 Main St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the arts or cultural organization of your choice.
