Jim ORCHARD

Obituary of Jim ORCHARD

JIM ORCHARD Jim Orchard, husband, father, grandfather, brother, educator, coach, world traveller, passed away peacefully at home Friday, August 8, 2008. The final words he heard were words of love from his family Jim started his life in the small town of Miami, Manitoba. He attended Manitoba Teachers College before obtaining his B.Sc and his M.Sc at the University of North Dakota. After graduation he made his home in Winnipeg where he met his wife, Maureen, and raised his family. During this time Jim taught in the Seven Oaks SD. He enjoyed traveling across Canada and the US with his young family. Later, with Maureen, he traveled the world from Europe to Australia, Asia, the Americas and the Caribbean; he loved the whiskey trail in Scotland. Early last year, when he learned he had Mesothelioma his wish was to greet 2008 with his family on the beach in Cabarete - and he did. When not at his cabin at Grindstone, Jim spent his retirement combining his passion for travel and sport by joining his wife as she volunteered for wheelchair basketball around the world. It brought him a smile when, on his last day, he received his official accreditation as a VIP for the Beijing Paralympic Games. Rest assured he will be watching. The family would like to thank Dr. Barry MacMillan, and Rhonda and Paula from the office for their kindness these past few months. We would also like to thank Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, and Jennifer from Palliative Care. Jim will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 43 years Maureen, his daughters, Tara and Kyla, their husbands, Andrew and Ben, his beloved grandchildren, James and Vesta, and Connie and Max. He will also be missed by Grant and Judy and family, David and Margaret and family. Jim was a kind, decent and generous man who had an impact on the lives of the many young people he taught and coached and all the friends who knew him. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Jim's life will take place on Tuesday, August 19 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 144 Main Street. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.cropo.com. If friends so desire a donation to The Campaign for BULGARIA'S ABANDONED CHILDREN www.tbact.org to help other children who unlike Vesta are still waiting or the CancerCare Manitoba would be appreciated. Dearest Jim, This is not goodbye just until we meet again. I love you, Maureen Cropo Funeral Chapel 586-8044
