Obituary of Gisela PARK
GISELA PARK
1934 - 2008
Sadly after a 2-month battle following heart surgery, Gisela Elisa Park (Thiel), age 74, passed away at Seven Oaks General Hospital on December 18, 2008.
Gisela leaves behind husband of 44 years Vaughan; daughter Monica; son Kenneth; grandchildren Ryan, Mickey, Madisyn and extended family.
Gisela was born in Hamburg, West Germany, she left her home in 1958 to start a new life in Canada. She was a caring and devoted daughter, wife and mother. Always ready to lend a hand, wipe away a tear or offer words of encouragement. Her life seemed to be largely spent in the service of others. Even as she would spend summer weekends at the lake, she could often be found knitting or crocheting a sweater, a pair of slippers or one of her beautiful afghans. But these were rarely for herself, when asked why she spent so much time and effort in her craft, she would simply reply "winters coming". And she knew this was to be gift that would make someone very happy. When she had time for herself she enjoyed swimming, bowling, bingo and garage sales. She also enjoyed making wine. Mom's wine was known to pack a punch. She often took the time to handwrite letters to her friends in Canada and back in Germany. She tried to get the hang of "email" but preferred to putting pen to paper. From time to time we would ask her if she would like to make a trip back to her hometown in Germany, and her answer would always come back the same "no.. this is my home now...and things wouldn't be the same anyway".
That was Gisela and we will all miss her dearly.
Friends and family are invited to share in a celebration of life on Monday, December 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
